Ole Åsli lives north of the Arctic Circle in Tromsø, Norway, where he works as a researcher and lecturer at the Arctic University of Norway. He holds a PhD in Psychology, which turns out to be surprisingly useful when writing stories about people making stupid decisions in impossible situations. His journey into fiction started in a Spanish swimming pool in 2016, when he and co-author Tony Bakkejord looked at each other and decided to write a book. That conversation led to 'Viking', published in Norwegian in 2017. Neither of them knew it at the time, but it was the beginning of more than twenty books across three genres and three languages. Ole and Tony write Viking historical fiction, fantasy, and crime, though not always under their own name. The Shieldmaiden series is their most ambitious work so far: an ongoing saga following Tora Haakonsdatter from a king's daughter to a warrior who carves her own path through 10th-century Scandinavia. Six books in and still going. Ole lives with his family in Tromsø. The Arctic winters are long. The summers have no nights. Both help with the writing.
