Scott Hertzog writes epic fantasy built around a single question:
What do people justify when they’re afraid?
For nearly three decades, Scott taught high school English, helping students find their voice in stories that mattered. Over the years, he mentored eight students through the process of publishing their first novels—watching them step from idea to finished book.
He is also a published author. His local history book, My First 250 Years: The Story of the Hertzog Homestead, reflects a deep interest in legacy, place, and the stories that endure across generations—interests that continue to shape his fiction.
He is also an award-winning podcaster and co-host of the SciFi Diner Podcast, where he has spent years exploring the stories that shaped science fiction and fantasy—and why they endure.
That love of story started early.
Watching the 1960s adaptation of The Mysterious Island ignited a fascination with worlds beyond the ordinary—stories where survival, imagination, and human choices collided in ways that stayed with him long after the credits rolled.
Today, that same fascination drives his writing.
Scott is also one half of the duo behind the YouTube channel Anywhere with Kristen, where he and his wife document travel, culture, and the stories found in unexpected places.
He currently lives in Portugal with his wife, Kristen, and their son, where history, landscape, and distance from the familiar continue to shape the stories he tells.
