Meet Theresa Maria Villarreal, award-winning author of the Adventures in Oculus series and Co-Founder of The Storytellers Foundation. She also serves as Co-Host and Producer of The Storyteller’s Shelf Podcast, creator of the Big Bang Notable Book List and a platform dedicated to authors, illustrators, and publishing professionals. Theresa writes middle grade fantasy grounded in adventure, imagination, and Christian values. Her stories are inspired by timeless fantasy literature and her belief in the power of faith to guide young readers through courage, curiosity, and truth. The first book in her series received the Christlit Book Award for Best Middle Grade Fantasy. She holds a degree in Marketing and Sales from the University of Houston’s Bauer School of Business. Theresa blends her business background with a natural gift for storytelling, using her experience as a self-published author to encourage others to pursue their creative calling with confidence and purpose. As a dedicated author and literacy advocate, Theresa shares children’s book and middle grade reviews on her personal YouTube channel, Literary Ladle, as well as across her social media and podcast platforms. Her work helps parents, teachers, librarians, and young readers discover meaningful stories that uplift, inspire, and spark imagination. Through The Storyteller’s Shelf Podcast, she and her co-host, Jackie Garcia-Morales, interview authors, illustrators, and publishing professionals, offering valuable insight into children’s literature and the creative process. A homeschooling mother of two, Theresa finds joy in faith, family, writing, baking, and gardening. Her mission is to craft stories that nurture wonder while supporting the next generation of storytellers, readers, and creators.
