A surprise single dad, small town romantic suspense…

I’m the last guy on the planet who should be a dad. My life is chaos. My sins written dark and deep.
So, imagine my surprise when my doorbell rings and I open it to find the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen standing on the other side.
And she’s holding the hand of a little girl who looks just like me.

Emery tells me her sister, the child’s mother, is dead.
I feel like dirt since she’s a woman I can hardly remember, and it’s no wonder Emery doesn’t trust that I’m worthy of caring for her niece.
But I can’t turn my back, and I insist on raising Maci.
So, we strike a deal—she’ll stay with me for one month to ensure the little girl is safe.

Emery tries to hate me for who I am, but neither of us can resist the attraction that blazes between us.
One brush of her hand, and she has me on my knees.
One kiss, and I’m falling fast.
Soon, we find ourselves tangled in my sheets.

But when it’s discovered her sister’s death wasn’t accidental, the secret life I’ve been living collides with the past Emery has tried to keep hidden.
And when the fiends come back to finish the job they started, I’m in a race against time to save the two people who I’ve come to love most…

This single dad, hate to love, morally grey hero, roommates to lovers, forbidden, romantic suspense was perfection! I loved everything about this book! The story, the characters, the spice, and the emotion was so well done.

The audiobook was phenomenal. Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon were the perfect narrators to voice Kane and Emery. Their performance was perfection and the audiobook was so enjoyable!

Well AL Jackson, you have my attention. This small town romance is packed with everything I love. Emery comes to town, bringing her niece to meet her father for the first time. The death of Emily has left her with this task, but leaving Maci with a stranger. Little does she know, he is the one she met the night before. Kane is the one of the group that is the loner. He has his own agenda that he keeps secret, and does not plan on settling down. But this woman has thrown him off kilter. And the surprise that he is a dad has brought his whole world into focus. But once he finds out the circumstances of Emily's death and the danger that has followed Emily, will he be able to keep her and his daughter safe? Oh my, this story. I dove in, and couldn't stop listening. Between seeing the others I have come to know and love and the addition of Maci with her adorableness, especially with Nolan, I was all in. This one has a lot of suspense which had me all in and the results has me wanting to keep coming back to this town. Can't wait for more!

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. That is all I have to say and you know exactly why this listen was just so good. Enhancing Jackson's writing, these two build the characters, bring all the feels and suspense and keep the story flowing at a pace that kept me engaged. Loved every minute!

A fast favorite!

Simply Superb. Kane’s backstory is heartbreaking but what he did with his (morally grey) life was impressive, just like his brothers in the crew. Emery was not just another random woman in the bar, their connection was more than just an encounter. Their life is connected forever, from past, to present, to future.
Jason Clarke’s voice was just the right tone for dark and edgy Kane. Erin Mallon as Emery brought all her warrior demeanour to life.

Here I am, my heart is full and I’m completely consumed by AL Jackson’s words. With each release of hers, I fall even more in love with her writing and the characters and worlds she creates.

It’s no secret that she’s in my top five authors, and At The Edge of Surrender is the prime example of why that is. It was pure gold. It ticked every single box when it came to what I look for in a romance book and exceeded all expectations.

At The Edge of Surrender is the Kane and Emery story. I couldn’t wait to dive into their story. I had been excited for it for months, and with every teaser the author dropped, the more excited I got. And I was not disappointed. The author delivered with these two. Kane and Emery’s love story is one for the books. It’s become my favourite couple written by this author, and it’s sitting in the top 10 of all time favourite couples ever.

Kane is every girl’s dream. He has everything you could want in a man – sweet, but not too sweet; swoony and romantic, yet not lacking in masculine qualities. His kinky imagination and dirty mind make most women weak at the knees and swoon for him.

He’s extremely protective of the people he loves, and one of those people is Emery. What originally started as a one-night stand quickly developed into something much deeper and more intense.

Emery has a lot of demons from her past, a lot of trauma she’s suffered through alone, and she has a lot to work through. But Kane is right beside her, helping her as much as he can and protecting her as much as he can.

And can we talk about when Kane meets his daughter for the first time? Swoon… My heart just melted. It was beautiful yet heartbreaking.

This story was about love, family, and acceptance, but it was also about pain, darkness, and evil. It was a very emotional and heartbreaking experience – one of the most emotional stories I’ve consumed in a long time. It’s a love story I most definitely will never forget.

This book had everything I could have asked for and more. I’m hoping the author makes a spin-off for just these two? (I can dream!) I loved it and I already can’t wait to revisit it!

Wow, A.L. Jackson does it again and blows me away with another exceptional novel set in her “Moonlit Ridge” series. As much as I would like to say the series gets better and better, I can not because it would not be fair to the first two books, which were just as amazing. Though I can say I have a new favorite character, or rather another favorite character, Kane Asher, who is part of a brotherhood, a found family, while they may be morally gray characters, everything they do is for the good and the deserving. Hearing Kane’s backstory was heartbreaking, and the man has closed himself off from love, not letting anyone get close to him, other than his found family and a reason he does what he does. And then she comes into town, Emery Voss, and she came for a reason, not knowing she had already met that reason, Kane, which complicated things. Emery brought her niece, Maci, to Moonlit Ridge because it was her late sister’s wishes for her to be raised by her father, Kane, despite her never telling him about her or him never wanting a family. Maci was absolutely adorable, genuine, sweet and innocent, and it would be difficult for anyone to not fall in love with her right away, even one with a fortress built around his heart. Emery tried so hard to do what she thought was the right thing, stay away from Kane, but the chemistry between them was electric and they were drawn to each other like a moth to a flame. Both were dealing with their own inner demons and hid secrets, current and past, but then their pasts come back to haunt their two worlds collide. I loved all the layers of this story, the complex web Jackson weaved and how it all played out, with plenty of drama, angst, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. This story is captivating from start to end, and the writing, plot and world building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. A.L. Jackson, thank you for another outstanding story and emotional rollercoaster ride. On of the best lines in the “You take care of the ones you love most”, moved me like no other. I can not get enough of these amazing characters and am looking forward to my next visit to Moonlit Ridge.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing audiobook narration, performed by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon, a perfect pairing and perfect casting. They were absolutely incredible voicing the characters, humanizing them with their personality for a spot on portrayal of each. Both nailed it in every role, especially the lead roles, as if they stepped into their shoes becoming the character, Clarke as Kane and Mallon, as Emory, convincingly and their kid voices were fabulous, capturing their enthusiasm and innocence. Their pacing and tone were right for the story, as was the way they projected all the characters’ emotions into their performance, making you feel every single one. They are entertaining storytellers, and their performance takes the already exceptional story to another level and keeps you glued to the story.
