Getting Legless is the memoir by Jared Hughes, who was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease in 2021.
As he was getting used to his new life on dialysis and the prospect of having a kidney transplant, his life was further turned upside down when he discovered that he had arterial disease which had been caused by his kidney disease being undiagnosed for so long. This resulted in Jared losing both of his legs.
Facing severe depression and the prospect of having to live with a major disability, he found strength and encouragement through his family and friends.
Jared wrote the memoir to help others with chronic disease and limb loss as well as anyone facing adversity or having difficulty overcoming life’s challenges.
The memoir is a humorous telling of some of the funnier things that have happened during his journey, as well as being candid about the reality of facing a life changing diagnosis and living with limb loss.
