Jared is a stage 5 Kidney warrior and was diagnosed in 2022 following a routine blood test. At the time his kidney function was just 3% and the doctors told him that if he hadn’t been diagnosed he would have died within two months. As he was just getting used to a new life on dialysis, when he started suffering severe crippling pain in his lower legs. It turned out to be arterial disease, a result of his kidney problem’s being undiagnosed for so long. This had caused calcium to build up in his veins and arteries, causing them to reduce blood flow to his lower limbs. Doctors tried to save his left leg by doing an angioplasty which didn’t work, and they had no alternative but to amputate the leg. They were initially optimistic about saving his right leg and he underwent an arterial bypass which unfortunately also failed. Almost a year later to the day he was once again in surgery to have that leg amputate too. Jared underwent over a year of physio therapy to learn to walk again using his new prosthetic’s and today is able to walk short distances unaided and uses a rollator if needing to walk longer distances. Jared decided to write his memoir to help others that are facing adversity and needing to overcome the challenges that life throws our way, and so the book was launched in February 2026. Jared is known amongst friends and family for his humour and that is evident within his writing as he makes light of his situation and shares some of the funny stories that happened along the way.
