One of the most successful players of all time, she was ranked as the world No. 1 in women's singles by the Women's Tennis Association for 260 weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. Alongside Martina Navratilova, vert dominated women's tennis from the mid-1970s to the mid-'80s.
